Mascara Mayhem

Goodbye 2017!

Here are all of the mascaras in my collection. I approximate that they are about 6 months old and ready for the trash so I thought I’d give a mini review of the ones I loved and the ones I hated.

I apply mascara almost every day. I wear glasses and have dark lashes that fall squarely in the “average” category. Most of my eye looks are bold so I like a thick but natural coating of mascara to hide behind. I do not wear falsies, ever. I have dry skin but oily eyelids. My biggest issue with mascaras is transfer to my lower lid, stickiness, and flaking.

Most of these were just meh, but I’ve noted the ones that stood out either in a good way or… not. I’d love to hear any suggestions for your holy grail mascara!

Here is what I’ve tried:

Benefit They’re Real Mini – Minimal transfer & flaking from 10 hr wear, thickening, was not sticky and did not dry out too quickly. I would repurchase.

Bobbi Brown Everything Mini

Butter London Iconoclast Mega Volume – This one has my favorite wand ever. It’s so easy to get extremely close to the lash line and be very detailed. The formula is mediocre with moderate transfer at about 6 hours.

Clinique High Impact Extreme Volume

Eyeko Fat Brush – I REALLY like this one and out of the bunch, this would be the first one I’d repurchase. I know I said I liked thick lashes but this applies so thinly and adds great color and length without transferring all over my face. The most “natural” mascara I’ve ever tried, it’s gorgeous.

Lancome Monsieur Big Mini – Flaking, lots and lots of flaking after 4 hours of wear. My friends love this. I don’t know if it’s the glasses that I wear or what but I hate it.

Loreal Lash Paradise – This is supposed to be a dupe for Too Faced Better Than Sex. I found it horribly clumpy and messy to work with (lots of lash combing needed with this one). It absolutely thickened my lashes but I had a ton of flaking and transfer after about 4 hours. After about a month, the spoolie was so coated with dried mascara that I was always having to clean it off before use.

MAC Zoom Lash – Although the formula was nothing special the COLOR was amazing. It is blue, like people talking to you from across a table will know that you have blue mascara on. People ask me about it every time I wear this. Moderate flaking, no transfer.

Maybelline Lash Stiletto

Nars Audacious Mini

Stila Extreme Lash Mini

Tarte Lashes Camera Action Mini – Transfer, transfer everywhere.

Too Faced Better Than Sex Mini – Word on the street is that the mini is a better formula than the regular size. This was OK, I wasn’t mad at it but there was a large amount of transfer after about 6 hours. I appreciated the fullness of the spoolie and this didn’t dry out as quickly as the Lash Paradise.

Ulta Amped Lashes

Ulta Plush Drama

Urban Decay Perversion Mini – Transfer, transfer everywhere.

These are in the same order as the picture above it.

Here is a preview of the new ones! Opening 1/1/2018 🙂

  1. Ooh wow maybe I need to get my claws in the mascara game lol I stick to my tried and true Maybelline great lash mascara in very black. I also wear glasses and can’t say I’ve had the misfortune of transfer or flaking with that mascara. Can’t wait to see your reviews on the new mascaras!

  2. I’m so glad I’m not the only one who isn’t in love with lash paradise and monsieur big (exact same issues). I don’t get it, I feel like I must have gotten a bad batch but I guess not…

  3. YES! You are my hero! I am just a woman that wears makeup once in a blue moon, but people blow up my wall for makeup stuff! I have mascara woes, too. I am looking for the one most like WonderCurl from like 10 years ago. I haven’t found the new favourite one yet. This gives me more ideas to try. I have bought 4 new tubes, and wear them so rarely I will keep them longer than I am supposed to. I also am in search of the best eye makeup remover. Most of them still leave the mascara on my lashes. So any advice in that area is also very welcome!

    • Heya Tish! I don’t remember Wondercurl but I have been using Clump Crusher on my lower lashes for about that length of time lol. It doesn’t flake or transfer and looks extremely natural so that might be something to give a shot and it’s about $6 which is even better!

Since I wear so much eye makeup I’ve found using an oil cleanser is the most efficient way of removing it! Any drugstore brand will do, rub on (no water) and wipe off with warm damp wash cloth usually gets it all in one try! I’m lazy!! I use the Clinique Cleansing Balm as well and I love it but it’s pricey and I think there are some really good drugstore alternatives that I’m going to explore.

Thanks for hanging out with me ❤️
